What Happened
Four people were arrested and two vehicles impounded after a street takeover on Express Drive North, west of Sills Road in Yaphank, at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, according to a Suffolk County Police Department press release.
A 911 caller reported a large gathering of vehicles at that location. Officers from the Suffolk County Police Street Takeover Task Force arrived and observed vehicles actively racing before the group dispersed.
Task Force officers pulled over a truck towing a trailer carrying a race car. That stop produced four arrests. Christian Vargas Hernandez, 28, is the only person identified by name in the Suffolk County Police Department’s release. The names, ages, and hometowns of the three other individuals arrested have not been disclosed.
Both the truck and the trailer were impounded. Police have not released information on the registered owners of either vehicle beyond the arrest of the occupants.
