What Happened
A 20-year-old driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway in Nassau County late Monday night, according to police.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Exit 29 in North Massapequa, police said. The driver, identified as Abraham Toribio, left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a light pole and multiple trees.
Toribio was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, according to police. He was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
Police say unsafe speed and slippery pavement were contributing factors in the collision. No other individuals were injured in the crash.
The incident forced closure of eastbound lanes near Exit 29 as emergency crews responded to the scene and investigators worked to determine the exact cause of the crash.
